Turanoceratops was named after the lands of the Turkic peoples, specifically as "Turan horned face". It appears to be a transitionary form between earlier ceratopsians and ceratopsid, but it is not nested inside Ceratopsidae. It was relatively small, as G.S. Paul (2010) estimated a length of 2 meters and a weight of 175 kilograms. Sues (2009) finds a mosaic of archaic (such as secondary ridges developed on the tooth crowns and 2 or 3 teeth in each position) and derived traits.
